Once you’ve added a placemark to the map, you can customize its name, the type of placemark it is, and other details. You can even add a placemark image.
Complete these steps to customize a placemark and learn more about its customization options.
Go to the map with the placemark you’d like to edit.
Click the placemark you’d like to edit to open the placemark’s details sidebar.
In the NAME field, enter a placemark name. Descriptive names are best.
Click the TYPE dropdown menu, and then scroll down to find the correct placemark type. To quickly jump to a placemark type, start typing a search term into the dropdown search field. The placemark types are split into two categories, Facilities and Points of Interest.
If you want an image to show for the placemark, click and drag an image onto the DRAG & DROP OR CLICK area. Alternately, click DRAG & DROP OR CLICK, find an image on your computer, and then click Choose.
The image layout can either be Widescreen or Full Page.
In the DESCRIPTION field, write a description for the placemark. In the DESCRIPTION field, you can make text bold or italic by selecting text, and then clicking the B or I buttons.
In the DESCRIPTION field, to make text a clickable link, select the text you want to make a link, and then click the Insert/Edit Link button. It looks like a chain. In the pop-up window, enter the URL you’d like to use for the link, and then click Insert.
When you’re done editing your placemark, click Save.
To preview the placemark, click the Preview button. It looks like an eye.
Add Contact Info
For some placemarks, such as one for a person’s office, you may want to include contact information.
The Editor lets you add a phone number, email address, and website URL to a placemark.
The Editor checks for valid email address and URL. Include
https://at the beginning of your website URL.
For some placemarks, you may want to link to an Editor page or external URL.
To add a link, click the +. Use the LINK field to search for an Editor page or enter a URL.
Make sure you include
https://at the beginning of your URL.
To add another link, click + again. To delete a link, mouseover the link fields, and then click the red trashcan.
Add Custom Fields and Categories
The custom fields are searchable keywords. Enter text that will help your visitors more easily find your placemarks.
You can use the CATEGORY field to assign searchable labels to placemarks. This also makes it possible to group and filter placemarks by category on the List page type.
Categories can be anything you want. When you start typing a category name, the Editor will search for that category and display any matching categories.
If there are no matching categories, the Editor will ask you if you want to create a new one. Click Edit Categories to see a list of all the categories in the Editor.
A placemark can have up to five categories.
Other Placemark Options
There are other placemark options.
In the KEYWORDS field, you can enter search terms you’d like to associate with the page.
Separate search terms by a space.
This field is no longer used.
Add a unique identifier to the placemark. You can use this field to add a unique ID from an external system so that you can associate placemarks with that unique ID.
The Meridian Editor doesn’t check for duplicate UID values.
SHOW ON MAP
Toggles whether to show the placemark on the map or not.
Check the box to show it on the map.
Toggles whether the placemark is a landmark or not.
Check the box to mark it as a landmark.
LEADS TO FLOOR
If the placemark is an exit, select the map it leads to.
